The other day I went downtown to run a few errands. I went into the local Coffee shop for a snack.I was only there for about 5 minutes, and when I came out, there was this Cop writing out a parking ticket.I said to him, 'Come on, man, how about giving a retired person a break'?He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. His insensitivity annoyed Me, so I called him a 'Nazi.'He glared at me and then wrote out another ticket for having worn tires.So I proceeded to call him a 'doughnut eating Gestapo.' (CNSNews.com) - Natural forces, not human activity, are primarily responsible for any global warming taking place, prominent atmospheric and space physicist Fred Singer declared Monday at the Heartland Institute's 2008 International Conference on Climate Change in New York City.
What's more, the preponderance of scientific evidence about natural forces causing global warming is so great that the issue is settled, Singer said.
"The science is settled in the sense that we have evidence that most of the climate change taking place today is caused by natural forces and not by human activity," Singer said during his luncheon address at the conservative Heartland Institute.
As was previously reported by the Cybercast News Service, Singer is a long-time critic of the "alarmist" view of global warming.
He was among 100 speakers and panelists taking part in the climate conference, which was attended by scientists from a dozen countries, including Australia, Canada, England, France, New Zealand, Russia and Sweden.
The conference is designed to give so-called "contrarian" scientists the opportunity to freely express their views on climate change. In a letter to the conference, Heartland Institute President Joseph Bast praised the scientists for taking a stand against political correctness and for protecting the scientific method at personal cost to themselves.
A summary of "Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the Climate," Singer's latest report, was released at the conference. Singer discussed some of the study's major findings in his address.
The report, published by the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC), is a rejoinder to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Singer said.
The IPCC, he said, has failed to produce any hard evidence suggesting that humans are largely responsible for the planet's current warming cycle.
The same information and data used by the U.N. IPCC was also applied in the NIPCC's exercise, Singer said.
However, in contrast to the U.N. study, an effort was made in his work to "connect the dots" between greenhouse model outputs and actual observations, Singer explained. In the end, no significant amount of warming resulting from human activity could be detected, he said.
The consequences of these results are "far reaching," especially as they pertain to public policy, said Singer. Since natural variability is responsible for climate change, it logically follows that warming and cooling periods are unstoppable and that carbon dioxide is not a pollutant, he noted.
Unfortunately, the political class has already attached itself to another set of assumptions that sees a strong correlation between man-made emissions and global warming, said Singer.
For this reason, "the train is already moving in the opposite direction" with all three leading presidential candidates embracing views that do not hold up under scientific scrutiny, he said.
Marc Morano, a spokesman for Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), agrees with Singer. "Consensus is a political construction," Morano said in an interview with Cybercast News Service. Nevertheless, the alarmist view that argues in favor of substantial human contribution to global warming is actually losing supporters, he said.
On average, there are anywhere from two to four new scientists per week in the English-speaking world who are publicly announcing their skepticism about claims that human activity is primarily responsible for climate change, said Morano. Most of the speakers gathered for the conference agree that there is no genuine consensus on global warming and man-made emissions.
In fact, international survey results show that almost half of the climate scientists polled in 2003 disagreed with what is often portrayed as being "the consensus" view, according to a booklet published by the Heartland Institute.
Most recently, Dr. Joanne Simpson, an atmospheric scientist who previously served with the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, outlined her views in a blog cautioning against excessive reliance on climate models.
"Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization or receive any funding, I can speak quite frankly," she wrote.
"For more than a decade now 'global warming' and its impacts has become the primary interface between our science and society. ... There is no doubt that atmospheric greenhouse gases are rising rapidly and little doubt that some warming and bad ecological events are occurring," Simpson added.
"However, the main basis of the claim that man's release of greenhouse gases is the cause of the warming is based almost entirely upon climate models," she said. "We all know the frailty of models concerning the air-surface system. We only need to watch the weather forecasts."

Sorry I just don’t agree and I can easily tell you why;

I do believe that the government has a right to do what they’re doing I just don’t think what they’re doing is right. This is an important distinction.
Your point about health inspectors is not the same as smoking. The reason that health inspectors go into restaurants is because customers have no way to know whether or not the food is being prepared properly or if the facilities are safe. This is why the government steps in because the consumer is helpless to know the quality of what is being served and therefore has no ability to make an educated choice. But in the case of smoking the there is no unknown factor that the government needs to step in to protect the consumer from. If you know there is smoking on site you move onto the next restaurant. You know what the dangers are and you are able to make a clear choice to embrace them or avoid them. This does not exist with food safety or building safety. See the difference?
Overall air quality affects us all so there is no ability to make a choice so the government steps in. See the difference?
Every citizen travels in a vehicle just about every day. Again, every citizen, so choice does not apply here either?
We allow topless bars and tell the customers to go elsewhere if they don’t like it. We don’t say I want to go there because I like the food so they have to get rid of those dancers. See the difference?
We let that caller make his point for roughly two minutes. I only talked over him when he would not let me speak. But you think I was being rude because you agree with him and disagree with me.
You said, “Smoking harms everyone exposed to. Period. Junk food harms only the consumer of it.” You can choose not to be exposed to the smoke by choosing a non smoking restaurant and therefore your point in this statement supports my argument, not yours. If you have a choice, just like the junk food, then the government should stay out.
In order for all of your statements to be anything but a “straw man” you have to prove to me that allowing a business owner to open a smoking restaurant effects all citizens without choice. Can you do that? If not, you’re statement about junk food, must be true, and therefore our argument must be true; which would then mean that a slippery slope is a perfect analogy.

Hi Jay and Ernie. Man, you guys are way off base with your "slippery slope" logic on smoking bans (eg if smoking is ban, then why not ban junk food or alcohol, etc).

If I follow your slippery logic that government has no right telling owners how to run their restaurants, then we don't need to have health inspectors and rules on how to prepare and serve food. If a business owner wants to cut corners on employee hygiene, cleanliness, cooking, and refrigeration, that should be their right according to your logic. And, if customers get sick, by your logic, they can just go to another restaurant next time ...if they survive.

If a government has no right telling owners how to run their restaurants, then we don't need rules saying they can't hire topless female waitresses. If someone has a problem with topless female waitresses, they don't have to go in and can just go to another restaurant.

And, who knows where your logic would end? If we take it to another level, auto manufacturers shouldn't be required to install seat belts and air bags. If someone has a problem with it, they don't have to buy the car.

Air quality is a recognized concern of government. Whether it be car exhaust, industrial exhaust, or smoker's exhaust, government can and should regulate pollution for the health of everyone. Your straw man arguments of if we ban smoking then where will it end ...junk food? alcohol? is a false argument. Smoking harms everyone exposed to. Period. Junk food harms only the consumer of it. Excessive alcohol harms only the consumer (assuming they don't drive drunk). So, you guys are just way off base.

Your logic is flawed. And you were rude to the caller (don't recall his name, but he was a real estate agent) and would hardly let him talk. And when he didn't agree with something you said, you kept shouting over him to the point of hyper-ventilating. Your credibility and manner on this issue is about as good as World Wrestling Entertainment. Both are entertaining but hardly believable.

In the future, try listening to your callers and keep an open mind ...you'd be surprised what you can learn.

(CNSNews.com) - According to a new study on global warming, climate scientists at the University of Rochester, the University of Alabama, and the University of Virginia found that the climate change models based on human influence do not match observed warming.
That is contrary to the views held by former Vice President Al Gore, who accepted the Nobel Prize on Monday along with the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and who thinks that climate change is largely caused by human action.
Gore wants nations to tax carbon dioxide emissions and not build any new coal plants, among other steps. "It is time to make peace with the planet," Gore said in his Nobel speech, as reported by the Associated Press. "We must quickly mobilize our civilization with the urgency and resolve that has previously been seen only when nations mobilized for war."
The new report, which challenges the claims of Gore and the IPCC, was published in the December 2007 issue of the International Journal of Climatology of the Royal Meteorological Society.
The report was written by David Douglass at the University of Rochester, John Christy at the University of Alabama, and Benjamin Pearson and S. Fred Singer at the University of Virginia.
"Our findings basically are that fingerprints - that is to say the pattern of warming - that's predicted by greenhouse models does not match the fingerprints of observations, so there is a disconnect between greenhouse models and the actual reality of observations," Singer told Cybercast News Service.
"This means that the greenhouse effect - while real - is not very important in producing climate change," he said. "It's a lot smaller than what the models calculate."
Singer said the reason why the models "overestimate the effectiveness of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases is that the models ignore what are called negative feedbacks which occur in the atmosphere, such as clouds, which reduce the effect of the greenhouse gases."
"Their models just don't consider them properly," he said.
But Bracken Hendricks, a senior fellow at the liberal Center for American Progress, told Cybercast News Service, that the study is "radically out of step with the complete scientific consensus."
"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is not just a report. It's not just a random gathering of scientists. It's the largest scientific body ever assembled," he said. "Their most recent assessment determined that there's 90 percent certainty that global climate change is happening and that it is caused by human beings."
But Singer said, "We have to remember that the climate has always been changing ever since we have records, and we have geologic records going back millions and millions of years. We know that there have been huge climate changes on the earth long before human beings actually came into existence.
"We are fairly sure that what's causing the warming are changes in the sun," he said. "These are very subtle changes that are very difficult to observe. The sun is really a quite variable star."
Hendricks, however, said because of the IPCC report, "the assertion that this is caused by increased solar activity or these sorts of things is out of step with the vast consensus."
"It's dangerous to get into a game of dueling science," he added. "We don't want to be gambling with the fate of the planet."
But Singer said because global warming is a natural event. "There is little point to try to control emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, which means that all of this legislation and all of these efforts to find substitutes for fossil fuels are pointless, useless and very, very expensive," he said.
Hendricks countered, saying that alternative energy will be a multi-billion dollar industry and "an opportunity to revitalize our global competitiveness" through innovation and job creation.

I would like to thank all of you for helping me poke holes into Jays argument that words are just words and that the "n" word should not offend anybody. Easy for him to say, considering that he is not BLACK. I am not black, but my friend is and he did call in and Jay spoke over him the whole time, not letting him talk and even went as far as to put him on hold so that Jay could be heard. You call that a debate? Don't be ridiculous! He sounded more like a little girl quarreling. This medium levels the playing field and allows me to take away the control that he has when he is on the radio hanging up on people and putting them on hold.I do take back the remarks about the child. I made those remarks to put his claim to the test: "Words don't bother me!"This will be my last post so I will not give you the pleasure of a rebuttal. He went from point to point to point without taking a breath to allow me to respond to any of them. That’s not a debate, it’s a bully tactic. I put him on hold because a debate is making a point and then letting the other side respond to that point. He refused to do so. You will take note that I put him on hold, responded to his comment and then amazingly allowed him to respond. I could have hung up on him right there, but somehow I refrained. That’s how debates work. I can provide the audio of this call if you would like so you can take some notes. You will notice that I never degraded him or spoke about members of his family. I left those tactics in elementary school where they belong.What’s so funny is that you think you proved something other than my point. Yes you made an inflammatory statement and yes it upset people. But my point was never that this isn’t the case. Words hurt people all the time and certainly the “N” word is one of the most painful words that could ever be spoken. My point was that we can make a choice as to whether things offend us or not and that life is much better for everyone when we make that personal choice. Instead of responding to this statement you called me a racist and went after my child. Did that anger me? Not at all, because I made the choice a long time ago that vibrations from another mans face only have power if I allow them to. Did your words bother other people including my wife? Yes! In fact she called me in tears because of your statements. Do you think I told her anything different than what I said on the air? Do you think I berated you in order to make her feel better? Wrong! I told her that these words have no value and I sought to train her as I seek to train you. And this is racist how? So the only thing you have proven is that we can choose and do so all the time.You can go on being filled with hate and attacking those that look at life differently than you but trust me when I say it’s no way to live. If you choose to be like a leaf in the wind blown to and fro by the words and actions of others then you will never be where you want to be and never feel the way you want to feel. This is a truth in life that has nothing to do with race, religion, or background. However, if you feel the need to call names and berate people I will gladly provide that service for you. Feel free to continue the tirade if you must.
