Deregulation of electricity in Texas has certainly had issues but that aside, continuing to purchase electricity at the incumbents inflated rates (TXU Energy in Dallas)is just like complaining that milk costs too much at the local quickie mart instead of just going across the street to the supermarket and buying milk at the cheaper price. A recent caller to Jay & Earnie on 3-13-07 stated that there was no real savings by switching electric providers because you had to sign up for 2 years to get only a 10-12% savings. THis is patently untrue. There are at least three providers that are currently offering a monthly rate under 11 cents per kWh vs. TXU Energy at 14.5 cents. By my calculation that is almost 25% less than TXU with no long term committment and no hidden fixed fees.
