An email from Paul about delayed flights
On the AA flights held at Austin recently there is one very important fact. When an aircraft is on the ground, it is controlled by the ground controller at that airport. The aircraft CANNOT move while on the ground unless the aircraft is given directions by the ground controller. The responsibility for the passengers held on the ground for such a long period of time rests directly with the management of Austin Bergstrom Airport. The lack of action by Austin Bergstrom Airport is even more glaring with the reports of available gates. If anything, the planes could have pulled up to a gate, deplaned the passengers and then, if necessary, moved the aircraft to a hold area on the tarmac. While it is certainly in the best interests of American Airlines to do some sort of compensation for their customers; the focus should be more on the lack of action by the management of Austin Bergstrom Airport.
